Competition Narrative Films, Denmark 2010, 90 Min., English subtitles
While working on his new film project, director Jacob Falk runs over an unknown man on a street one night. He flees from the site of the accident, but takes the victim's bag with him. It contains some alarming photographs that show Danish soldiers violating human rights. Falk seeks the aid of a journalist to make these photographs public, but feels increasingly surveilled by the men behind the crimes. Simultaneously, Falk and his wife are wistfully waiting for an adoptive child, the approval for which he now sees endangered by the Danish military. Seven years after his great success with "Reconstruction", director Christoffer Boe presents a mystical political thriller that – like its predecessor – creates a fascinating world set between dream and reality. Visually brilliant and with a fascinating lead actor as well as numerous references to role models such as Jean-Luc Godard, Alfred Hitchcock and the paranoia thrillers of the 1970s, Boe also comments on the ongoing debate as to the deployment of Danish soldiers to Afghanistan.
