"The Final Shift" has longe since ended for the Schleswig sugar factory: Christoph Corves documented the closure of the well-known factory by the River Schlei. The news about the company's decision to close the plant hits the employees completely out of the blue. Until this moment everyone had considered their jobs as safe for the rest of their lives. Now they all face the question: how will it go on? The film portrays the factory and the people who work in it in the final months before it it first closed and then torn down. The people speak openly their their concerns and their plans for the future. The individual fates piece together to form a poetic snap shot of universal validity.
