Competition Documentaries, Norway 2008, 74 Min., English subtitles
When Rune Denstad Langlo presented his documentary film "Too Much Norway" in 2005, it offered an entertaining and unusual look back at his country's 100-year history. To examine the country's present, he has once again reverted to an unusual cinematic procedure. Since his work on "99% Ærlig", Langlo is called the "marathon man" in Norway, because he and his team spent two years running alongside their dynamic protagonists Emir, Haji, Assas and Amina. These four Norwegians with a migratory background are better known as "Forente Minoriteter" (United Minorities), which is the name of their Hip Hop band, around whose musical career "99% Ærlig" centres. The film accompanies them to performances and rehearsals and gives them many opportunities to speak their opinion. The result shows four adolescent Muslims, caught in the tension between forming their own identities and meeting societal expectations, and portraying a modern Norway from an unexpected perspective.
