Hvid nat

Real estate agent Ulrik’s world is in order when he leaves for work one morning – then he deceives a freshly married couple with a barefaced lie. In the evening Ulrik is behind bars and responsible for the loss of a human life. He had quarrelled with a drunken man in a bar. The man fell awkwardly and was lethally injured. Although Ulrik is set free the next day with some help from his solicitor, his life has changed completely from one day to the next. When Ulrik feels pity for the drunkard’s widow and two children and gives them a house as a present, it is the onset of his downfall. A few weeks later he is kicked out by his wife and has lost his job. Nothing is left of the cool, strong personality that he once had. After a script by renowned author Anders Thomas Jensen, director Jannik Johansen gives a comprehensible account of the decay of a feigned façade that hides a traumatized personality – brilliantly acted by Lars Brygmann, who succeeds in giving the protagonist all the aspects of a “character-mask”.
