BlodsbåndMirush und sein Vater / Mirush

Competition Narrative Films, Norway 2007, 100 Min., German subtitles

Blodsbånd

Mirush lives in the Kosovo. Shortly after he was born his father left the family to earn a living in the North – and nothing has been heard from him since. When Mirush’s older brother dies in an accident, the boy finds a clue in his belongings as to a restaurant that the father owns in Oslo – as well as the travel money he will need. Thus Mirush arrives in Norway as an illegal immigrant, where, using a false name, he is employed as a temporary worker by his father. Bekim is a big disappointment for Mirush: denying his Albanian background, his father is thinking of remarrying, and has also become involved with the Albanian mafia. When Mirush steals the expensive wristwatch of a hoodlum, a regular guest at the restaurant, the consequences for himself and his father are of the worst sort. Following his rural psychodrama “Øyenstikker”, director Marius Holst has succeeded in uniting the motif of the rejected son, Oslo’s particular sense of multiculturalism and the mafia film genre into an exciting urban thriller.
