Gitte Haenning looks back on a career spanning more than 50 years. Like Conny Froboess in Germany, Gitte Haenning was a teenage idol in Denmark in the 50s. She took Germany by storm in 1963 with “Ich will ’nen Cowboy als Mann” and soon teamed up with Rex Gildo to create the dream team of German pop. But it was not long before Gitte felt pigeon-holed and started to look for her own voice. She made films, delved into jazz and had hits such as “Ich hab die Liebe verspielt in Monte Carlo” or “So schön kann doch kein Mann sein”. She played leading roles in German and Danish theatre productions, made albums in several languages, appeared in more than 120 television productions throughout Europe and went on tour. Director Marc Boettcher accompanies Gitte Haenning to the scenes of her greatest successes and also shows her more private side. In his film, which includes previously unpublished vintage footage, relatives, colleagues and friends, including Peter Kraus, Udo Lindenberg, Wencke Myhre and Fritz Rau, have their say.
