Olsenbanden ser rødt

The notorious Olsen Gang gets caught up in a transaction involving a precious Chinese vase coveted by a shady aristocrat. Egon, feeling cheated, swears revenge. The eighth film in this highly successful series includes what is probably the Olsen Gang’s most famous coup, when the three break into the basement of the Copenhagen Royal Theatre and carry out their heist during the overture of Daniel Friedrich Rudolph Kuhlau’s “Elverhøj”, timing explosions to coincide with the musical climaxes. The scene citing the climax of Hitchcock’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much” is sheer genius, triggering what critic Henrik Jul Hansen claimed at the 1976 premiere to be “the most intense laughing fit I can ever remember having”. Like its predecessors and sequels, this Olsen Gang film had Nordisk Films Kompagni laughing all the way to the bank.
