All or nothing – neither the asylum seekers nor the civil servants who decide their fate are given a second chance. Everything depends on this one interview, which will determine whether they can stay or not. So first impressions really count. There will be no second chance. “The interview is all we know about them and after that we make our decisions,” explains one civil servant in the film. Which makes it all the more surprising that the Norwegian immigration authorities claim that 80% of asylum seekers do not tell the truth about their background. So how do the authorities come to their conclusions? Filmmaker Charlotte Røder-Tvedt wanted to find out more. She and her team were granted permission to film behind closed doors. Their film tells at first hand the tragic stories of the immigrants and the dilemma faced by the decision-makers.
