Homage, Germany 2006, 90 Min.
A film about the (im-)possibility of love, with all the power of an epic literary drama. In Henrik Ibsen's faustian “Peer Gynt”, truth, madness, wishes and reality blur as Peer Gynt hurls himself into one adventure after another. The dramatic potency of Ibsen's writing is shaped by his ability to stamp a truly individual identity on the kaleidoscope of impressions and stories. Director Uwe Janson transposes the scene of this tale, originally written for the stage, into a journey along waterways that mirror Peer’s imagination. Various encounters with bizarre figures determine the path of his life, revealing Peer's inner turmoil and the many different personalities within him. This is the journey of a dreamer who is at one with himself without ever really being true to himself as he lies and cheats his way through life. In his quest for fulfilment he has missed out on life, abandoning his true self.
