Epo, Dingo and Opa are three friends in Copenhagen who earn a living as bike couriers. Whereas Dingo and Opa have steady partners, Epo lives the single life, always on the pull. This Danish Don Juan’s conquests make his friends so envious that they both decide to end their respective relationships and do as he does. But is that really what they want? “Green Hearts” is fast-moving, irreverent and witty. It is, as director Preben Lorentzen quips, “a bike comedy in which the chain slips off the chainwheel of love”. And indeed, for all its hilarity, this film addresses the serious question of whether being single really is as much fun as a lot of people like to think it is – and comes up with some exciting and amusing answers. The extraordinary thing about this Danish production is its cast of unknown actors. When it was released in April, critics in Denmark flagged that up as one of the greatest strengths of “Green Hearts”.
