Midsummer in Northwest Mecklenburg – endless fields, shimmering heat in the air, wind turbines rotating on the horizon. A tractor rattles along a dirt road with Christin sitting bored-to-death in the passenger seat. The miniskirt and short top she wears reflects her ambivalence for the rural area in which she lives. She conducts her farm duties as stoically as she endures her loveless life with her boyfriend Jan. Affection and intimacy are long gone. There is no sense of country idyll, optimism, or future promise. Christin would like to escape the rut, the lethargy, but she cannot exactly figure out how, or where to go. This film, based on the novel of the same name by the Lübeck-born author Alina Herbing, is told from the perspective of its silently rebellious protagonist. Any and all romantic glorification of country life is lost in a dreary existence characterised by entrenched gender roles, hopelessness, and alcoholism.
