Several years ago, misfit Jens succeeded in getting the authorities to believe that his daughter Liv drowned. Since then, he, his wife Maria, and Liv have lived the life of hermits in the forest. Their house is falling down; Maria is bedridden and pregnant; Liv has run wild, but she is happy. Jens teaches her how to hunt animals and preserve them in resin. Jens is also happy. Back in civilisation, the authorities wanted to take Liv away from him, but he has succeeded in holding the family together. To keep it that way, he’s prepared to let other people die, no matter how close they are to him … This film version of the bestselling book paints a gloomy picture of life in the natural world, where death is omnipresent. Atavistic, obsessive, incestuous – the forceful to the bitter end character depiction of a radical family man skilfully evokes psychological horror.
