At first, everything seems perfectly normal and harmless. A teenage girl goes home with a girlfriend after sport, makes herself something to eat, goes into the bathroom before going to bed, and then phones her father to say goodnight. And suddenly a wave of catastrophe breaks over her parents’ life. “I wanted the actors to be in the situation in real time”, says director Tuva Novotny, “I wanted it to be as authentic as possible”. The concept of shooting the action in one single take is not a gimmick in this case, but far more. Real time, with no cuts, allows for a painful realism that reveals something we far too rarely notice. The blind spot of the title is the quiet despair that we don’t see in young people because they don’t show it ... until it’s too late.
