The Arctic Circle Spirit Ice Queens from the northern Finnish town of Rovaniemi can only dream of the gravity-defying acrobatics of the professionals from the USA. It’s hard for the cheerleading team from the Arctic Circle; the girls regularly finish last in national competitions. They have trouble staying in sync during the choreographed bits and their lifts are shaky. Their trainer has decided they can’t go on this way. So she travels to Texas to discover the secret of success and the American teams’ effortlessness. But it may not be quite so simple to transfer those training methods back to Finland. Success won’t come easily to the Ice Queens; they don’t have easy lives. With gentleness and sensitivity the film follows the young women through their training – and through the adversity of growing up.
