It’s night and Johannes stands on the balcony outside his room. His nose is bleeding as he stares into the distance; he has reached rock bottom, point zero. Life at home with his depression-plagued mother is so strenuous that his father and both his sisters have long since moved on. He is treated with nothing but contempt at the elite school where he was recently enrolled. All that’s waiting in his old neighbourhood are old friends – and the disastrous pull of parties, alcohol, drugs and robberies. The situation Johannes finds himself in is increasingly hopeless. But faced with the choice of giving up completely or taking on the hard work of a fresh start, he chooses the latter. Without sugar-coating it, but with a touch of optimism, the film explores the effects of psychological and physical violence on a young man’s life.
