It’s 1967 Germany. Martin dreams of wandering the world and writing. Ruby’s passion is music. The two can only meet secretly, because Ruby’s father, a strict Catholic and pitiless tyrant, has demonised Martin. They finally run off and hope to disappear in the crowds of Berlin. But the dream doesn’t last long. Ruby ends up in a locked Catholic care home and Martin is taken to a notorious reformatory in Freistatt. Now separated, each must fight alone for spiritual survival – in a world that is determined to break them. Ten years later, Ruby looks back on those years and is hit with bitter truths. As a pop singer, she embodies an ideal world, but she can only bear it with pills and alcohol. On that evening in Baden near Vienna, the ghosts of the past come back to haunt her.
