Støv på hjernen

Støv på hjernenStaub im Oberstübchen / Dust on the Brain

Retrospective, Norway 1959, 94 Min.

“I just try to make everything nice for you and the boys.” That’s why Randi Svendsen spends all day cleaning the flat and doing the washing and cooking. Like the other women in the Oslo suburb of Lambertseter, the young mother of two mainly strives to be the perfect housewife for her husband. Randi doesn’t realise that this is threatening her marriage until she notices her husband making eyes at a sophisticated neighbour. In desperation, Randi joins an “Association of Radical Housewives” whose goal is to do whatever it takes to reinvigorate their marriages, down to wearing sexy black lingerie. The comedy is one of Norway’s greatest cinematic successes of all times. Some 1.5 million Norwegians (out of a population that was less than 4 million back then) saw the film in cinemas. It even inspired two sequels and a Danish remake.
