Fjols til Fjells

Fjols til FjellsGaga im Gebirge / Morons in the Mountains

Retrospective, Norway 1957, 96 Min.

Poppe the hotel manager seems to have a mind of his own, so Grundberg the director sends his daughter Ruth to the Hurlumhei ski hotel to check if everything is in order. Disguised as a porter and introducing herself as Rudolf, Ruth gets to know the manager and sees for herself that the man is rather overwhelmed – both by his job and by his nerves. He seems to be at wit’s end when not only the film star Teddy Winter checks in, but also the actor’s doppelganger. In addition to an appearance by the legendary Leif Juster and a breeches role by stunningly charming Unni Bernhof, this roller-coaster comedy of mistaken identities, directed by Edith Carlmar, features Liv Ullmann’s first-ever screen performance. She appears as a hotel guest in the disintegrating winter wonderland that gives new meaning to the Ibsen quote, “absolute reason died last night at eleven o’clock”.
