Korso

Children´s and Youth Films, Finland 2014, 84 Min., engl. ST, 14 years and older

Markus always has a basketball with him, carrying it around the streets in his backpack. His greatest dream is to be a professional streetball player in New York. But Markus lives in Korso on the edge of Helsinki, and a journey to the US seems a near impossibility in his dreary daily life. At the age of 20, he has neither a school diploma nor a real job. He practises his streetball moves in an abandoned building amid junk and broken glass. The only diversion is alcohol, which he and his friends mix up themselves. As if that weren’t enough, Markus meets his sister’s new boyfriend, Jojo. The young Congolese man is confident and considers Markus a “white boy” who’ll never amount to much on a streetball court. Markus will do anything to prove to himself that Jojo is wrong, and in the process gets further and further away from his true self.
