Competition Documentaries, Norway / Sweden 2013, 90 Min., swed. OV
Goro is 98, Lillemor 88, Irma 66 and the others are somewhere in between, and they all have their beloved volleyball to thank for keeping them young. Many have been playing for decades and rarely miss a practice. When Birgit suggests that after 30 years they should actually play against another team, they peck away at their keyboards to scour the net for possible opponents. The women are thrilled when the Swedish men’s team “Gunpowder Guys” takes up the challenge. The men may be in the same age group, but the women must still get serious about practicing, and from now on with the net back up to regulation height. And, what colour should the uniforms be? Are little flowers still appropriate? And what happens if one of them gets sick? And despite a bout of illness, in the end, they all stand ready for the trip to Sweden. Regardless of how the match turns out, these women will surely win your heart.
