Specials, Finland 1937, 82 Min.
Finland in 1930. Hulda is a simple girl from a small village. Without money, but with ambitious goals, she makes it to the capital. In front of the parliament building, Hulda is picked up by judge Soratie, a single representative. He takes Hulda in, and she works as his servant; but she isn’t satisfied with this. Without Soratie’s knowledge, Hulda begins attending night school, and even goes on to university. At the same time, she’s learning the rules and limitations of “higher” society. When Hulda decides to run for Parliament on a platform of rights for women and the disadvantaged, conflicts are unavoidable. Filmed adaptation of the theatre piece by the same name by Hella Wuolijoki (1937), which H.C. Potter adapted in 1947 for Hollywood as “The Farmer’s Daughter”.
