Specials, Faroe Islands / Denmark 2014, 70 Min., engl. ST
This psychological drama depicts a day and a night in the lives of a young family who live in a pretty house by the sea in the village of Sandur on the Faroe Islands. At first glance, they seem like a normal, happy family – mother, father, and an 11-year-old daughter – but it soon becomes apparent that there’s something dark and sinister lurking behind the façade, which threatens to explode. The film is based on the director’s own experiences and stems from a poem she wrote, published in her prize-winning 2012 collection “Eru koparrør í himmiríki?' (Is there copper tubing in heaven?) The film was originally planned as a short and, with local support, she was able to develop it into the first feature to emerge from the Faroe Islands in 15 years.
