KapgangSpeed Walking

Competition Narrative Films, Denmark 2014, 108 Min., engl. ST

Martin is 14 when his mother dies. His father withdraws and hides out in the basement. Martin‘s brother Jens starts wearing sunglasses all the time. But Martin wants to continue seeing his friend Kim, for whom he harbours special feelings. He also wants to keep up his speed walking training, and he hopes for a kiss from the pretty neighbour girl, Kristine. Just because the adults are acting weird, it doesn't mean his first love has to fall by the wayside. As he manages to free himself and the rest of his family from mourning, his father Hans realizes that Martin is gradually taking on responsibility. His confirmation ceremony is a milestone on his path toward growing up – even if things take an unexpected turn. This film succeeds in recreating an authentic 70s atmosphere, and its ensemble draws from the top tier of Danish actors.
