Set within the framework of a family drama, the independently produced debut by Swedish director Filip Tegstedt celebrates intricate psycho-horror without affectation. “Marianne” - starring a brilliant Peter Stormare and Thomas Hedengran - features an impressive, modern form of narration that successfully transports the protagonist's immediate traumatic confusion, wherein the director invokes influences from mythical folk poetry as well as citing “Nosferatu”.
