The story of Count Orlok, a vampire, whose love for the beautiful Ellen causes him to terrorize her hometown of Wisborg, is considered the “first true horror film” (William K. Everson). The way in which F.W. Murnau successfully depicted collective fears on the screen has lost nothing of its fascination to this day. And the words of a Lübeck newspaper from 1922 on the adventures of the Hanseatic estate agent who travels to a “land of phantoms” have lost none of their relevance since the film's restoration in the original colours: “We have no doubt that 'Nosferatu' will be filling Lübeck's auditoriums down to every last seat - as it has everywhere else where it was shown, not least because the film was shot in Lübeck and has carried a number of pretty corners of Lübeck out into the wide world, e.g. Salzspeicher, Depenau, Kolk, Blomsgang, Pagönnienstraße, Aegidienkirchhof, featuring many artists from our city theatre” and - exclusively in its anniversary year - from the Lübeck Academy of Music!
