Snúi líf ElvuDas verdrehte Leben von Elva / The Twisted Life of Elva

Competition Documentaries, Iceland 2011, 58 Min.

It is like a mosquito bite: You don't want to scratch, but then you can't stop yourself. 30-year-old Elva Dögg suffers from Tourette's syndrome: She compulsively clears her throat or shivers, she twitches or kicks out with her leg. It began with a little twitch of the nose at age six, and has gotten worse ever since: For the past year, she has felt the uncontrollable urge to spin around her own axis - and gives in to it, even in the supermarket. Because of her “tics” and a number of other psychological disorders, it is impossible for her to get a job. Her last hope lies in a surgical operation: Two electrodes implanted in her brain are to help her gain control over her symptoms ... The film accompanies Elva Dögg before and after her operation. It shows a self-confident woman who is prepared to face her illness - even at public talks and in self-ironic stage performances.
