One house, three generations: Saima lives here in 1942, during the War, working as a teacher in the village school. Her daughter Tuuliki spends her 1978 summer holidays in the old wooden house that has been in the family since the 1920s, and which granddaughter Salla flees to 30 years later when she breaks up with the love of her life. “Stars Above” tells the tales of these three women - of their longings and struggles. Saima, whose husband is fighting at the front, finds comfort and support with a war-invalid astronomy student who has been deployed as a farm hand. Tuulikki is a single mother dreaming in vain of an intact family, while her daughter Salla finds new perspectives - also for the house - with the young neighbour's assistance. The women make decisions at central course-setting moments in their lives, influencing the lives of the generations to come.
