15 years have passed since policeman Erik was forced to give up his work in the Norrbotten police department in the high north of Sweden and return to Stockholm. Here has since earned a reputation for being the national homicide squad's most successful investigator. Now a new crime has been reported from the remote area where Erik originates from, and once again he is assigned the case. A woman has disappeared. Presumably she has been murdered, as a fired shell from a hunting rifle would suggest. Soon a first suspect is found in the person of Jari, a local made out to be aggressive and mentally disturbed, who is subsequently arrested by Erik and his colleague, Thorsten, the local chief-of-police. The case seems solved, but Erik is dissatisfied. Against the local department's will he continues his investigation - and discovers new atrocities. Once again director Kjell Sundvall combines high tension thrills with a subtle portrait of the social system where crime is generated.
