The beautiful Rebecca Thalberg escapes from a psychiatric hospital and takes a train into the Erzgebirge mountains. On the train she finally meets her husband Henry. But soon the joy of their reunion becomes overcast as Henry grows melancholy and Rebecca becomes helplessly set on helping him. She is convinced that the key to Henry's sadness lies in his past, which Henry has been very secretive about. His family owned a now deteriorated glass house deep in the Erzgebirge, clouded in a dark secret. When Rebecca arrives in the village she is eyed suspiciously. Only Tom Faller takes the disturbed young woman into his care, but he, too, seems to be involved in the events. Only one thing seems certain: Henry's mother Eleanor knows more than she is willing to impart.
