Filmforum, Germany 2011, 89 Min., German version
Bismuna is a remote place on the Atlantic coast in Nicaragua. It is where Christian from Lübeck, Finn from Kiel and Moritz from Hamburg - almost children at the time - were given one last chance at kicking their drug habit in Dieter Dubbert's camp. The adolescents are released into their lives. 11 years later, Uli Kick meets the young men once more and shows how they try to gain control of their lives. Finn initially stayed in Nicaragua, married and went back to school. But he returned to Germany after his wife rammed a knife into his chest during a fight. Back home he absolved a traineeship and now works as a graphic designer. Christian was busted with cocaine whilst still in Nicaragua, was thrown in jail and now does heroin in Germany. Moritz didn't do much better at first, but then he successfully gave up drugs and now works as a hotel manager. The frankness and clear-sightedness with which the three - and Dieter Dubbert - describe their situation, make this long-term study a unique film absolutely worth seeing.
