Charlotte Rampling – The Look

Charlotte Rampling: breaker of taboos, style icon, international star and courageous avant-garde artist. She was the Chelsea Girl of swinging 60s London, Visconti brought her to Italy for "The Damned", her role as Liliana Cavanis in "The Night Porter" sparked an international debate on taboo-breaking. She inspired Helmut Newton to make his first nude photography, she represented the ideal woman for Woody Allen in New York, and she starred in Hollywood alongside Paul Newman and Robert Mitchum. Her favourite directors are Nagisa Oshima and François Ozon. The film is divided into nine chapters, in which Charlotte Rampling encounters old friends and companions, including Peter Lindbergh, Paul Auster and Juergen Teller, with all of whom she speaks about age, beauty, taboos, desire, death and love. Seldom does a star speak as cleverly and casually albeit insistently about topics that concern us all. And director Angelina Maccarone has succeeded in creating a portrait of her idol without idealising her - a magnificent, authentic self-portrait.
