Sing, Inge, Sing! – Der zerbrochene Traum der Inge Brandenburg

German jazz has a voice: Inge Brandenburg. Raised under difficult circumstances - both her parents died in, or on the way to a concentration camp -, her life began highly traumatically. Until she discovers music. Initially she appears in various small nightspots before she has her big break in the late 1950s. A four-week engagement in Sweden turns into eight highly successful months. Her ultimate leap into stardom ensues at a performance at the 1958 Jazzfestival in Frankfurt. She is now celebrated as Europe's best jazz singer, Time Magazine compares her to Billie Holiday, and musicians treat her royally. But the German record industry of the times only has the "schlager" genre in mind ... The tale of this fascinating musician has been rediscovered by the collector Thomas Rau. Together with filmmaker Marc Böttcher ("The Gitte Haenning Story", featured in the NFL 2006 Filmforum) he delves into a life of austerity, yearning, success and excess. This thrilling historical document is augmented by interviews with accomplished German jazz musicians - but its absolute high points are the performances by Inge Brandenburg!
