Gabriel suffers under his control freak mother, Stella's grandmother is a despotic dragon, and Greta, whose mother is an alcoholic, uses Facebook to get to know her biological father. In his wonderful feature film debut "Jitters", director Balvin Zophoníasson rightly cites Richard Linklater's 1993 highschool film "Dazed and Confused" as its protagonists are similarly dazed and confused. The clique portrait centres on 16-year-old Gabriel. On a holiday trip to England, the quiet boy falls in love with the self-confident dandy Markus. But back in Reykjavik their love affair stands no chance: Markus has a steady girlfriend and Gabriel is fully absorbed by his clique. Balvin Zophoníasson gives a sensitive and competent account of adolescent longings and problems, torn between duties and parties, until one night a drinking spree ends in an intensive care unit. "Jitters" is a portrait of a generation that is left to its own devises, without any orientation provided by the adults.
