Orfelas / Veiviseren

When the 16-year-old Aigin returns home from hunting in the snowed-covered forest, he makes a terrible discovery: His entire family has fallen victim to a rival clan. Aigin's father, mother and little sister have been brutally murdered by the Chud. Aigin, too, is in risk of dying as he is hit in the chest by an enemy crossbow dart. While the remainder of his peoples are pursued as they flee toward the coast, Aigin, a handful of warriors and Raste the shaman secure their retreat. Although they are able to somewhat decimate the murderous horde, Raste falls into the hands of the superior enemy. In order to save the shaman from torture, Aigin offers his services as a tracker in the pursuit of his own people. Nils Gaup's "Pathfinder" is a gripping adventure film set in a magnificent, Nordic landscape, shot in the Sami language and very much set on authenticity. In 1988 it was the second Norwegian film ever to be nominated for an Oscar.
