Competition Documentaries, Iceland 2011, 48 Min., English subtitles
They sing of the sea and the pains of separation, of stormy weather and tempestuous love: "No Bone No Skin" is a blues and rock band from the Icelandic coastal town of Ølafsfjör ur. Its members not only share a passion for modern sea shanties, they also share a workplace: they are all members of the crew of the fishing trawler "Kleifaberg". With 40 seamen and fishermen on board, it often sails the Nordic waters for a month at a time. To strengthen the group, the men founded a band. In 2001 they had their first TV appearance (during a strike) and have recorded five albums since. The film accompanies the group on concerts - including one in France - but also shows the hard work on board the "Kleifaberg" and the oftentimes neglected family life on shore, where the wives keep the small community up and running. Some of the men have since signed off, one represents the fishermen in Parliament, others have passed away. But the remainder can't stop rocking while the waves keep rolling ... and in the galleys the kitchen utensils swing along in time.
