They are Helsinki's greatest layabouts. Certainly its best-known layabouts, since the young Finnish author Mikki Rimminen created his three protagonists Marsalkka, Henninen and Lihi in his "The Six-pack Novel" in 2004. Director Ville Jankeri has hit the exact same mixture of melancholia and comedy in his adaptation of the urban study. Three men in their mid-twenties drift through the streets, parks, terrace cafés and bars of summertime Helsinki throughout 24 hours, discussing women, drugs and anything and everything, provoking policemen and ticket collectors, spaciously avoiding any sort of work - and telling every anecdote there is to tell. The screenplay's witty dialogues encompass more lines than the complete works of Kaurismäki. And yet this nimble-footed film of a wonderful young men's friendship comes up with a surprize that is utterly atypical for its country of origin: Helsinki can be so hot!
