Sveppi and Villi are the very best of friends. Sveppi is not the brightest, but Villi makes up for it with his avid interest in all things "scientific". A broken short wave receiver, for instance, which he was given by his grandfather. For when he repairs it, it emits strange voices. It is quite evident that Villi has picked up on a secret organization intent on taking over the world supremacy with the help of Ninja warriors. The next morning Villi has disappeared – kidnapped. Sveppi picks up a trail: It leads to an abandoned airbase and from there into the clouds ... "The Big Rescue" is a turbulent rush through the adventure and science fiction genres. But the most surprizing aspect of this skilful parody is its cast: All children's roles are played by adults. In Iceland, Sveppi and Villi, whose adventures are based on an equally successful TV series, outplayed all US children's films last year. The audience was unanimous: Seldom has the frquently invoked "infantilization of society" evoked such amusement.
