"The ABZ of Love" was the title of the book by Inga and Sten Hegeler that made the psychologist couple Sweden's "sex educators of the nation" in 1961. Eight years later they also conquered the silk screen: Seated in a cosy living room, they discuss – over several cups of coffee and countless cigarettes – sexual practices with a gynaecologist and a female doctor. In extravagent split-screen projections, young couples illustrate what was being said in clinical or pop-decor settings. At ease, liberal, educated and tolerant – sexually and otherwise: "Language of Love" presents an ideal image of Scandinavian citizens in a welfare state. The internationally very successul sex eduation film later became "notorious" thanks to Martin Scorses's "Taxi Driver" (1976): Here it runs in a porn cinema to which sociopath Travis Bickle (De Niro) takes a young woman on their first date – to her horrification. In Sweden the film was rated 15.
