Hjem til jul

Christmas Eve in Norway. In the minor town of Skogli people are preparing for the festive season – some more and some less lovingly, some pleasurably and jollily, some lonely and some not at all. Several interlinked episodes portray these people, their hopes and wishes within the few hours provided by the celebrations. And indeed, this night brings a number of changes to some of the citizens of Skogli: A child is born, a traveller dies, an affair is ended, a marriage is rekindled and a young love begins. It is the normal course of life. On a very special evening ... "Home for Christmas" is a modern Christmas fairy tale in which humour and tragedy, tenderness and despair, hope and reconciliation are very close. After "Kitchen Stories" (NFL 2003) and "O'Horten" (NFL 2008), director Ben Hamer presents another of his typically laconic films with a unique eye for the bizarre forms of human togetherness.
