The trap snapped shut on 7th November 1942: In the early morning hours, alleged spy Kerttu Nuorteva was on her way to a laundry when she was arrested. She initially denied working for the Soviets. But the truth comes to light throughout the course of drawn-out interrogations: Kerttu Nuorteva was born in the USA, daughter to a Finnish father who fled from the Czar. She lived in New York, returned to the Soviet Union with her parents and began working as a journalist in Leningrad. In February 1942 she parachuted over Finland and began gathering information for the Soviet secret service. The interrogations reveal her to be a fervent communist, a faithful though critical follower of Stalin – and a literary intellectual, often superior to the four officers who take turns interrogating her. In his film, Jörn Donner adheres closely to the protocols. "The Interrogation" is a gripping battle of words: One against four! Without revealing the outcome, it is safe to say so much: Minna Haapkylä masters her difficult, multi-layered role with absolute excellence!
