Kicki is in her late forties and has a problem with alcohol. After spending many years abroad, she moves back to Sweden into a bleak suburban apartment. While she was away, her son Viktor had been raised by his grandmother. In the hope of finding a way to approach each other again, Victor and Kicki decide spend a holiday in Taiwan together. But even there, Viktor cannot connect to his mother, who cannot stay off the alcohol – and who actually came here to meet Mr Chang, an Internet acquaintance. Left alone, Viktor roams the streets of Taipei where he comes across Didi, a young Taiwanese. As the two of them develop a fragile friendship, the tension between Viktor and his mother continues to increase. Håkon Liu's debut is a poetic film about loneliness and the opportunities posed by friendship. In brilliantly composed images and precise, sometimes improvised sequences, Liu leaves his first-class actors enough room to unfold their characters. Pernilla August excels in the title role of Miss Kicki, which was tailor-made for her.
