Special, Norway 2009, 79 Min., German subtitles
In the wake of a nervous breakdown, former ski star Jomar Henriksen works as a piste guard. He is fed up with skiing. Rather than issue ski passes or do maintenance work on the ski lift, Jomar spends his time smoking, drinking and lazing about. But when a friend tells him he is father to a child up in the high North, Jomar leaves behind his dissolute lifstyle and sets out towards the North – alone on his snow mobile and with nothing in the way of provisions but five litres of alcohol. Because he forgets his snow goggles, he doesn't get very far. Snow-blind, he becomes dependent of the help of a young woman who lives in a remote cabin with her grandmother. The first of a number of memorable encounters. On his long travels, Jomar will come across tanks, dangerous tunnels, a chained-up Sami, full fridges in empty houses and inventive ways of getting drunk ... and ultimately perhaps with his own child. This absurd-laconic feature film debut by Rune Denstad Langlo is a most notable work of outdoor cinematic fun: Sisyphus in the deep snow!
