Retrospective, Norway 1996, 113 Min., German subtitles
Three very different men embark on a hunting expedition in the freezing polar landscape of Greenland. Henrik Larson, a writer from Oslo, is physically on the weaker side, and he suffers greatly under the bitter cold and the brutality of Randbæk, who leads the expedition. The third man is Holm, an experienced huntsman. He is soon fed up with the other men's violent clashes and goes his own way on Christmas Eve. When an accident causes their shelter to go up in flames, the two squabblers are forced to find a new hut and pick up the track of the missing Holm. A final dual seems inevitable. This Nordic Western was shot on Spitsbergen in the autumn of 1994, after a novel by the Danish author Peter Tutein, who had spent several winters in Greenland in the 20s. The team spent six weeks in the Arctic desert. Some scenes were reshot in a frozen Norsk Film studio in Oslo.
