Endstation der Sehnsüchte

In the 60s, Yong-Sook, Woo-Ja and Chun-Ja left everything behind to come to Germany as guest workers. Although perfectly assimilated to their new environment, they feel a constant yearning for their past. Now they have made their dream come true and have taken their husbands on a trip to Dogil Maeul, the "German Village", built especially for their likes: Yong-Sook, Woo-Ja and Chun-Ja have returned home as wealthy pensioners and have become a tourist attraction. The village lies in a picturesque bay, has red tile roofs, perfectly kept front lawns and appears more German than German, right down to whole-grain bread and bockwurst. A bizarre setting, in which tourists trample throught front lawns and laugh at the "long-nose granddad" husbands. Traditional Korean dress mixes with fitted, living-room wall systems made of German oak, garden gnomes sit next to Buddha statues: director Sung-Hyung Cho has plenty of experience in cultural balancing acts to draw from.
