The bitter force of fate tears into the harmonious life of a family of four in the form of a serious car crash. The mother and youngest son do not survive the crash. Only father Lasse and his oldest son Jonas remain. Nine months later the two of them set out to spend their summer holidays on the Swedish archipelago. Tough times follow, as Lasse struggles with depression and Jonas isolates himself increasingly. Can father and son muster up the strength to overcome their grief and approach each other with open arms? This intense drama was a great box office hit in Sweden last year. Supported by a troupe of extraordinary actors – at the tip of which stands Swedish superstar Michael Nyqvist, also starring in “The Black Pimpernel” – and an exquisite picture composition that skilfully incorporates the summer landscapes of Sweden into the action, director Johan Brisinger has created a complex emotional piece on the power of mourning and the overcoming of the same.
