Götterdämmerung

An adventurous trip through Scandinavia made by the fictional Icelandic skald Einar Ormstunga, a travelling singer and warrior from the Age of Vikings. He crosses the North of Europe in the time from 997 to 1000ad, accompanying the monk Martin, from Hamburg, sent by his bishop to convert the heathens. Tough times break loose for the worshippers of the Germanic gods. The skald tells his companion about the dwindling realm of these gods and in return he is taught to write. Together Einar and Martin enter the fading cosmos of Odin, Thor and Freya, fascinated and alarmed in their experience of the Germanic religion and myths. The figures in this docu-play are fictional, but the film is based on extensive research and the latest archaeological, historical and theological knowledge. The fascinating landscape imagery was captured in original locations in Iceland, Northern Germany, Denmark and Norway.
