Competition Documentaries, Sweden 2007, 72 Min., English subtitles
Photographer Mattias Klum travelled across seven continents on the tracks of natural scientist Carl von Linné (1707-1778). He was accompanied by the camera team of director Folke Rydén as well as by three young Swedes. The main epistemological interest after this literally world-encompassing expedition lies in: How shall we live today in order to preserve the beauty of nature for future generations? In what way can research and science help solve the pressing environmental issues? Thus the film files a ‘world damage report’ by means of astounding documentary material and images of nature that clearly depict the clearing of the rainforest and the warming of the polar ice caps. Furthermore, scientists and environmental activists give accounts of how the change of climate can be stopped and of how an abundance of species can be saved. And it is always the young travel companions that ask the experts what the individual can do to help preserve what Linné called “Systema Naturae”.
