This documentary film pierces the heart of village life. Somewhere between the Kiel Canal and the River Elbe, in the flat plains only occasionally crossed by a container ship, the musicians of a fire brigade band meet persistently. Way beyond plain, conservative village music, the honorary musicians play and rehearse for their group, often even resisting the temptations and opportunities offered by the near major city of Hamburg, just to ensure the continual sounding of their music. “Das Dorforchester” (“The Village Orchestra”) tells of an exemplary commitment to music, of being home, of love and of the greater and lesser wishes of life, allowing one to approach these people and take them and their music to heart.
