Throughout its 125-year history, the Kiel Week has developed into the most frequented summer festivity in Northern Europe and the biggest sailing sports event in the world. What began exclusively on the water on 23rd July 1882 now also creates waves of enthusiasm at land. The sporting events are accompanied by a mixture of art, culinary amusement and parties. The Kiel Week has been captured on film repeatedly for many years. Since 1934 private individuals have been making use of the 8mm format, initially in black and white, later in colour. The “8mm Kiel Week” collects, assembles and brings to light 70 years of 8mm film history.
