Filmforum Schleswig-Holstein, Germany 2006, 88, German version
When Kurt is released from a two-year jail sentence for an arson attack on a synagogue, he returns to his hometown of Lübeck, where his best friend Bomber, a neo-Nazi, gives him a hero’s welcome and proudly boasts about the progress the neo-Nazi movement has made. Kurt’s past soon catches up on him and he gets involved in an arson attack on a Turkish restaurant and a Jewish shop. The situation escalates when Kurt hears a woman screaming for help in a flat above the burning shop. While his “comrades” take to their heels, Kurt dashes into the flames to save her. She is Turkish, and her name is Ayse. When Kurt and Ayse fall in love, the pressure is on. Kurt’s comrades see him as a traitor, and Ayse’s brother Saladin wants to protect his sister from the neo-Nazis. Bomber is torn between his loyalty to his friend Kurt and to his “comrades”.
